| What is HID (High-Intensity Discharge) Lamps/Light Bulbs? |
HID, or High-Intensity Discharge lamps provide the highest efficacy and longest service life of any lighting type. We offer HID lamps such as metal halide and high pressure sodium. HID lamps require ballasts in order to be operated. They also take up to ten minutes to produce light when first turned on, because the ballast needs time to establish the electric arc.
Metal Halide Lamps: Produces almost white light, attain 100 lumen per watt light output. Applications include indoor lighting of high buildings, parking lots, gymnasiums, warehouses, shops.
High Pressure Sodium Lamps: Products yellowish light, attain up to 150 lumens per watt. Applications include street lighting, warehouses, and parking lots. |
